Better Baby Food

First of all, I would like to mention "I am not a cook." So when a friend asked if I was going to make my own baby food I was horrified. "Feed Tiny Tank my kitchen kreations... I don't think so!"
However, I then found this book called "Better Baby Food" by Diane Kalnins and Joanne Saab, while waiting for a prescription at the local Save On. As a fanatic of anything designed to make my life easier, I decided to give it a shot.
The book contains numerous pages geared towards both breastfeeding and formula which I found rather enlightening after spending 5 months breastfeeding without a clue as to what I was doing. The visual images of the various feeding positions was also a nice touch for those of us that need to see it to do it.
This book also contains a great deal of factual information about the signs of hunger, when to start solids and nutrition facts for your child's growing body. One of the key features was that even though it is an American publication by The Hospital for Sick Children, it contained up-to-date Canadian content (such as our new food guide).
Now for my favorite part! Over 1/2 of the book is recipes which are categorized as Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, etc AND are also listed by relevant age. It made looking up pureed veggies for Tiny Tank a snap!
Tiny Tank is only 6 months old and I do find that for the amount of food he is actually consuming it is still easier to buy the Heinz organic jars of pureed baby food. However, the recipes in "Better Baby Foods" have full, healthy meals that can be made and enjoyed by the whole family. Sexy Soldier has been enjoying my culinary skills as I have been whipping up these fool-proof meals for dinner these past weeks.
The only complaint I have, is that when feeding a soldier, you may have to double (or in my case triple) the batch in order to have enough food to go around!
Check out my recipe section to review a few of the recipes I have made that came from "Better Baby Food."
